They are thought to mate monogamously, but new observations have shown some nasty territorial behaviour. The male chooses the nest site typically along vegetated shorelines. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs.\u00a0 Their population is declining so please take care.\u00a0 Keep your distance and slow down as you boat by Loon Island.
